NORBERT
J. “PETE” POINTNER
Chairman |
Formerly
a principal of Planning Resources Inc. in Wheaton, IL, Pete Pointner
holds architecture and city and regional planning degrees from Illinois
Institute of Technology. He is an author and lecturer in community
planning, downtown revitalization, site plan review, historic preservation,
public participation, environmental analysis and scenic highway
design. He has taught community planning and design at the university
level. With a resume spanning the globe, Pointner has worked on
planning and on environmental and design studies for highways, public
transit and railroads in communities across the United States and
overseas including Australia and Kuwait. He helped prepare VIA’s
long range plans in 1978, 1985 and 1991 |

GERALD
E. ARNDT |
Gerald
E. Arndt, a certified planner and licensed architect, is a principal
in Development Planning Services, Inc., a real estate development
and public works planning and management form based in Denver, CO.
Arndt holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s
in city and regional planning from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
He worked in the Chicago office of Mies van der Rohe as a supervising
architect and project administrator; as a project manager for DeLeuw
Cather and Company in both Sydney, Australia, and Denver; and for
Urban Investment & Development company in Denver, before starting
Development Planning Services. |

PAUL
S. NATHANSON |
Paul
S. Nathanson is Director of the Institute of Public Law, a public
service arm of the University of New Mexico School of Law, and a Research
Professor of Law at the Law School.
He holds a law degree from Duke University and a Master’s in
Comparative Law from the University of Chicago. A national leader
in the field of legal rights for the elderly, he is currently President
of the National Senior Citizens Law Center and has worked with numerous
federal and state government agencies on public policy. His research
encompasses work on health policy, bio ethics, environment, insurance,
aging, transportation, wildlife law, judicial education and natural
resources.
He has won numerous awards for his work with children and television,
and held a Special Presidential Assignment for Community Relations
at the University from 1993-1995. He has served on the Boards of numerous
community service organizations, including the New Mexico Coalition
against DWI and Alcohol Abuse, the Coalition for Children, the Governor’s
Task Force on Public Employee Benefits, and AARP New Mexico Healthwatch.
Currently Mr. Nathanson is Vice Chairman of the National Committee
to preserve Social Security and Medicare and on the Board of National
Senior Citizen’s Law Center both of which are in Washington
DC. For the last two years he has taught a course on Law and Aging
at the University of Massachusetts in Boston and plans to continue
teaching. |

KAREN
ZAMORA
Secretary |
Karen
is a graduate of the American Institute of Banking and Western States
School of Banking, she has worked in that field for twenty years.
This former Valencia County resident has been a VIA member since the
early 1970’s. She is past president of the Greater Belen Chamber
of Commerce, past director /treasurer of the Valencia County Historical
Society and a director of the Belen Rotary Club. She is currently
residing in Colorado pursuing an entrepreneurial opportunity. |

ROBERT
J. DAVEY
CEO
/ President |
Bob
Davey is president and Chief Executive Officer of VIA and treasurer
of the Rio Grande Utility Corporation, the VIA subsidiary that provides
water and wastewater treatment service to Rio Communities. He has
served on VIA’s Board of Directors since 1984, and as a member
of the Valencia County Economic Development Corporation and its predecessor
organization since 1978. He has been on the staff of VIA since 1976.
Other organization affiliations include the Advisory Board, UNM-Valencia
Small Business Development Center, Development Board, UNM-Valencia
Campus, Central Area Workforce Investment Board (Executive Committee
and Chair, Planning Committee) and a member of the Steering Committee,
Valencia County Comprehensive Plan. He is a graduate of Fordham University
and the University of New Mexico’s Anderson Graduate School
of Management. |

VINCENT
RUSSO |
Vince
Russo, a resident of Riverdale, Georgia, retired from his Army career
as a Lieutenant General in 1989, and now consults to such entities
as the RAND Corporation and the Logistics Management Institute. He
served as Director, Defense Logistics Agency, where he oversaw logistical
support for the Department of Defense worldwide; and, as Assistant
Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, responsible for the logistics functions
of the U.S. Army. He graduated from Fordham University School of Business
and attended the U.S. Army War College. |

PAUL
BACA

Paul
A. Baca is a native of Valencia County, and the general manager of
Baca Auto of Belen and the owner and operator of a travel center on
Belen's south side. A long time member of VIA, he currently chairs
the City of Belen Development Board and The City of Belen Lodgers
Tax Board and serves on the Wells Fargo Bank community board. He is
a past president of the greater Belen Chamber of Commerce as well
as the Rotary Club of Belen, a former board member of the First National
Bank of Belen as well as many other community boards and organizations.
He is the recipient of the Sam Walton Business Leader Award, Citizen
of the year and business of the year awarded by the Belen Chamber
of Commerce. He and his wife Loretta with their 4 children live in
Belen. |

JAMES
H. FOLEY |
James
H. Foley, this year’s nominee for Director, brings more than
35 years of banking and financial experience to VIA’s Board.
A graduate of Eastern New Mexico University and the Southwest Graduate
School of Banking, Foley served as President, CEO and Chairman of
the Board for both First National Bank of Belen and its parent, American
Republic Bancshares, Inc., until 1995. Under his leadership, First
National grew to become the eighth largest bank in the state. Since
1995, Foley has served as Chairman of the Community Advisory Board
for Wells Fargo Bank of Belen. He serves on a host of church, community
and business association boards. Among his civic awards, he has been
named Citizen of the Year in Belen, received the Community Leadership
Award from the New Mexico Easter Seal Society, the Humanitarian Award
from the New Mexico Bankers’ Association, the Rio Abajo Award
from the Valencia County Historical Society and the Banking Leadership
Award from the Western States School of Banking. He and his wife Mary
Kay live in Belen. Their son Jamie lives in California with his wife
and children; their daughter Jennifer lives and works in New York
City. |
